Christianity Begins With A Confession of Faith

The Conversion of Saul to Paul, by Peter Paul Rubens

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Jesus is the High Priest of our confession.

Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

Saul, who had been persecuting the church, made a confession at his conversion.

Acts 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Saul understood in that moment that Jesus was resurrected and alive and that Jesus is Lord. [Saul is also known as Paul the apostle. Saul was his Hebrew name. Paul was the Roman name.]

Romans 10:9,10 was written by Paul because Paul (Saul) lived that moment. He realized two things. Jesus is risen from the dead. Jesus is Lord.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Through the confession and belief that Jesus is risen from the dead, and that Jesus is Lord, a person is saved or born again.
