Yoke of My Transgressions …hath made my strength to fall

When looking at history, it is necessary to understand one overarching truth: God created the world and his laws have the final say.

Now an atheist may say, I don’t believe that. Regardless, it is like the law of gravity. You may not believe it, but I would advise you not to challenge it whether you believe it or not. Scientists smarter than you can confirm it exists and if you defy it, it will be to your detriment.

In any case, the Creator of the universe, the Lord God is a covenant-keeping God. This is why it is advisable to get a one-year Bible, or regular Bible, and read it through yearly to understand all this. It is impossible in one short post to go into all the details that it takes over 1,000 chapters of a Bible to fill.

The United States began as a Christian nation. If you look at the founding documents you will see evidence of that. You will also see evidence of that in the early school books.

Over time, it has succumbed to the temptations of satan, for power, for lust, for greed. The military industrial complex, which President Eisenhower warned about as he left office, has made money off of war and there have been kickbacks and bribes into the pockets of various people, including politicians.

Connected to this is the whole issue about Israel. It is important to understand that the nation, after Solomon, divided into two parts, Israel and Judah. Israel was taken into captivity by Assyria. Judah was later sent into exile to Babylon for 70 years and then returned.

This may seem like unimiportant, dull, dry history…why does it matter? This history, which happened so long ago, absolutely matters because both of these things are absolutely involved in the current conflict regarding Israel and all other surrounding issues.

When you look at thousands of years of history from the viewpoint of things are happening in relation to God’s purposes and laws, things that happened hundreds or thousands of years ago can still be having an effect today. To some extent people understand that. For example, President Putin will go into extensive history lessons to explain the current position of Russia. Today is not unconnected from yesterday.

Here are some points of history that relate to today.

First of all, when Israel went into captivity, it ended up dispersed among the nations. Today and throughout history we learn of movements of peoples due to various reasons such as wars, famines, immigration (legal and illegal). Various people groups get mixed in among the nations. In the matter of Israel, the seven times more curses for breaking covenant with God are being poured out.

It is worth making a point here. While Jesus did come to make a way of escape, it only applies to those who have learned about it, have faith in it, and take it. That is not all of mankind at this point.

Having made that point, it is necessary to discuss the phrase, “the seven times more curses are being poured out.”

It is not that God does it. God is a God of love that sent his own Son for the salvation of mankind.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

But God is a God of covenant. There is a God side and man side. God keeps his word for provision, protection, and blessing. Often, man does not and disobeys the covenant.

Obedience to God creates an umbrella of protection. If we don’t learn what that is about and stay under that umbrella, then we subject ourselves to the storms which is the equivalent of saying the curses are being poured out.

If a parent loves a child and tells the child not to run in the street, so it does not get hit by a car, if the child ignores the parent’s warning, runs into the street, and gets killed, it doesn’t mean that the parent didn’t love the child. It means the child didn’t listen.

Ultimately, God is the Father of mankind, especially of those who believe. He created all, but to come back to the Father’s house (due to the Fall) requires faith in Jesus Christ and being born again.

In any case, the United States has transgressed against the covenant it made with the Lord in its founding documents. Overall, it has left the Lord, backslid, and apostasized. There may be individual believers (and the Lord chastens his children individually as they need it), but we are talking overall and we are talking the leadership of the nation as well. Since the time of Samuel, when the people demanded a king, an unrighteous king can have a huge effect on the people, regardless of individual believers.

We cannot expect, with all the bluff and bluster that President Trump makes, that any aggression will turn out well. As a matter of fact, it is destined to fail. You can simply look at the scriptures below and know that.

If you tell me you are going to go and jump off a high place, I don’t need to watch you to know what the result will be. The law of gravity tells me it will not go well with you.

I don’t need to watch the news to know what the end result of any aggression by President Trump will be. I simply look at the scriptures. There is so much sin and iniquity, it is obvious what direction this will go.

You can’t break covenant with the Lord and then pray for protection. As a good Father, to teach you better, to teach you correct behavior, you will sit in the consequences of your actions for a while. Repentance may eventually permit a return to a better state. God is a wise Father and will help us correct our attitude and behavior as a nation. That usually comes through suffering which leads to repentance and that is not a pretty picture.

Lamentations 1:14 The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.

Hosea 13:12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

Jeremiah 2:19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Isaiah 64:7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

Ezekiel 39:23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.

Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
