Acts 27:9-21 “Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me”, i.e., I told you so

As we enter into the next phase, it will be apparent that those of the alternative media will be proven correct. There were those who said that this began as an unConstitutional war. It is leading to a tremendously destructive reaping to the United States and the world.

The initial problem was pride. President Trump overruled the Constitution which says that war must be declared by Congress. The Founding Fathers created a system of checks and balances. They knew that one man is fallable and cannot operate a whole nation by his own “mind and morality”. By having checks and balances it would help overcome the sin nature of man. Many of the Founding Fathers were Biblical Christians, and understood that the sin nature, the nature of man after the fall, would lead to government officials overstepping their postions. The balance of power was a way to hold the sin nature in check. It is acknoweldged in the Bible that there is a continual war between the flesh and spirit, or to use more secular terms, morals and conscience versus lust and greed, and leaders can be subject to bribery or blackmail and overstep those boundaries.

One of the Founding Fathers said the Constitution was only for a “moral and religious people”. “Moral and religious people” should be governing themselves according to the leading of the Holy Spirit which should be in line with the Sermon on the Mount, not crusadic calls for war. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.

In any case, the law was broken, and “the wages of sin is death”. Death and destruction are upon us now.

The problem is, as it has been for centuries, the voices of those who are not within the Emperor’s Circle (“The Emperor’s Clothes”) are not listened to. Those who surround the Emperor are afraid to oppose him due to be fired or even death. Those who are not in the inner circle, like the little boy who saw the obvious, can speak more freely, but they are ignored. They don’t have the “credentials” or are not in the “club” or the “clique”. But often the quiet or not-so quiet-voices that are not in the spotlight say things that need to be said.

Paul had a similar experience. And after “many days” where they effectively “ate crow” for their refusing to listen to Paul at the beginning, Paul finally said, in effect, “I told you so.” You can read the whole story. Find an online Bible and read Acts 27.

Acts 27:9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,

10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.

11 Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

12 And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

13 And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete.

14 But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon.

15 And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.

16 And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat:

17 Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven.

18 And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship;

19 And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.

20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
